Women’s Soccer Trounces Trine

Oct. 4, 2025 - North Central College women's soccer kicked off Homecoming weekend inside Bendetti-Wehrli Stadium with a 4-2 win over Trine University. The Cardinals were led by Jordan Lange's brace to move to 6-5-0 (1-0-0 CCIW) on the year while dealing the Thunder (5-2-3, 1-0-0 MIAA) its second loss of the season.

Yazmin Martinez did not waste any time putting a shot on goal in the first minute of play but the effort was thwarted by Trine's goalkeeper Madison Kinneer. Lily Mattison returned the favor in the third minute with a diving save to keep the match scoreless.

North Central found its scoring opportunity in the seventh minute. Moving the ball up the sideline, Madison DeVriendt sent the ball into the box but Trine's defender cleared it directly to Brooke Nelson who placed it in for Martinez for a rocket shot to the upper right corner to go up 1-0.

Just six minutes later, Lange received the ball upfield and took on her defender one-on-one dribbling to the middle with a set up touch to bury one in the upper 90 and take a 2-0 lead.

In the 15th minute, North Central DeVriendt crossed high in the box to a group of players with Lange finding the delivery and heading it into the back of the net for her second goal of the game and boosting North Central to a 3-0 advantage.

After taking just two shots in the first 18 minutes of the game, Trine found its chance to crack the scoreboard in the 18th minute following a North Central foul, granting the Thunder a free kick just 10 yards outside the box. Trine used a one-bouncer to cut the Cardinal lead to two, 3-1.

Both teams settled in after Trine's goal with only six shots taken in the rest of the half, four of which were North Central's.

North Central opened the second half with a corner kick in the 48th minute with Lange servicing the corner, Trine was unable to clear the ball as Kassandra Salviola finished off the half volley down the middle to regain a three-goal 4-1 lead.

Trine cut it back to two with a goal in the 66th minute with a last second cross for a touch-and-shoot to bring the score to 4-2. After Trine's second goal, the Thunder stepped it up but was unable to find another scoring opportunity as North Central came away with a 4-2 win.

North Central dominated the possession and led in shots, 21-9, shots on goal, 11-6, and corners, 8-3. Trine's keeper had seven saves while Mattison had four.

The Cardinals are on the road for their next contest as they head to Rock Island, Ill. Wednesday, Oct. 8 for a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin match against Augustana College.
