ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (Oct. 8, 2025) - The North Central College women's soccer team delivered a dominant performance in Rock Island, Ill, Wednesday night, Oct. 8, shutting out Augustana College (3-7-2, 0-3-0 CCIW) in a statement 5-0 win that pushed the Cardinals to 7-5-0, and 2-0 in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play. The Cardinals controlled every aspect of the match, not allowing a single shot from the Vikings while piling on the pressure offensively with four different Cardinals contributing goals in the win.

The Cardinals got out hot in the opening half, taking the first seven shots of the game while putting the Augustana keeper to work with three saves to start the contest.

Gabriella Mattio set up a wide-open look for Kara Waishwell with under 20 minutes in the half  but the Vikings keeper made a diving save to keep the scoreboard clean.

A cross from Lucy Burk ricocheted off the back of the Viking defender's heel and went straight to Madison DeVriendt who buried the ball for a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute, scoring her third goal of the season.

With under seven minutes to go in the half, Jordan Lange showed off her footwork, shaking off her defender before finding the gap in the Vikings backline for a high goal to give North Central a two-goal cushion.

The Cardinals made it a three-goal game off a corner kick opportunity where Yazmin Martinez perfectly executed the service into Mackenzie Loomis to deliver a header goal in the 39th minute. Out of the reset, a miscue by the Vikings put the ball on the foot of freshman Dylan Moeller, setting up a back-and-forth maneuver between Sophia Hein and Reese Anderson. Anderson took the last touch of the series with a shot that the Vikings keeper fumbled, giving the Cardinals a 4-0 advantage heading into halftime. It marks the first goal of Anderson's career.

North Central did not allow a single shot in the opening half and took to the second half with the same efficiency.

A scuffle in the box saw Lange go up against three Vikings defenders and the goalie before winning the battle and putting away her second goal of the game, and seventh of the season, to give North Central a 5-0 lead in what would eventually be the final score.

North Central dominated the stat sheet leading 31-0 in shots, 17 of which were on goal. Both teams had three corner kick opportunities, and sophomore goalkeeper Lily Mattison played the full 90 minutes on her way to her fourth shutout of the season.

The Cardinals will return home Saturday, Oct. 11 as they host Elmhurst University for another CCIW matchup. The 11 a.m. game inside Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium will be the first of three contests on Saturday with men's soccer and football games to follow.
