STEVENS POINT, Wis. (Nov. 1, 2025)- Beginning the 2025-26 season on the road in Stevens Point, Wis., the North Central College men's wrestling team placed 10 wrestlers in the top eight of the gold division, as well as six winners of their respective weight classes in the silver division.
Top-ranked 125-pound wrestler Chip Guzman has begun a successful senior season, winning his weight class in the gold division of the Pointer Open. Guzman opened the new season with a 19-5 technical fall victory over Konstantinos Papadopoulos (Wisconsin-Parkside). He went on to pin Patrick Gugala-Reinders (Luther College) in 2:48 in the next round and proceeded to win via technical fall the rest of the way, including wins over Jack Reina (Augustana, 15-0), Joey Sikorski (North Central, 15-0), and Dylan Duvernay (Wisconsin-Parkside, 16-1).
12th-ranked 133-pound wrestler Ethan Spacht won the 133-pound gold division, going 5-0 against the competition. The opening round finished with Spacht pinning Kolton Ploughe (Manchester) in 1:31 and moving on to Simon Moreno (Wisconsin-Parkside) in round two. There, Spacht defeated Moreno with a score of 18-1 in a technical fall, and he would advance to the quarterfinal. In the quarterfinal, Spacht scored his second pinfall victory of the tournament, finishing off Cael Morrow (Minnesota State Mankato) in 2:46. The semifinal match proved to be much closer as Spacht defeated Chase Beckett (Minnesota State Mankato) by a 4-0 decision. In the first place match, Spacht prevailed with a 4-0 decision victory over Matthew Chi (Wisconsin-Parkside).
Joshua Robison, the 15th-ranked 141-pound wrestler, placed 5th in the gold division of his weight bracket to begin the season. Robison won his first two matches of the meet with a 3-1 decision over Colton Hush (Minnesota State Mankato) and a sudden victory over Simon Kruse (Wisconsin). Robison fell to the consolation bracket with a loss in the quarterfinal to Kaiden Dietzenbach (Minnesota State Mankato) by a 7-4 decision. Robison wrestled back to the third-place match with a pinfall victory over Lucas Ryan (Minnesota State Mankato) in 2:05 and an 11-10 decision over Hudson Hackbarth (Maryville). He dropped the third-place match by a 6-3 decision.
In the 165-pound gold division, Mekhi Cave earned fourth place after receiving a bye to the second round, where he defeated Liam Fox (Wisconsin-Parkside) in a 4-2 decision. Cave fell in the quarterfinal match, falling to the consolation bracket. Winning two matches in a row sent Cave to the third-place match, where he fell, to take fourth place.
Casey Aikman, ranked seventh in the 197-pound weight class, placed fourth in the gold division. Aikman defeated Braiden Young (Augustana) by an 11-7 decision and followed it up with a major decision victory over Grant Cook (Minnesota State Mankato). Aikman fell in the semifinal but bounced back with a 10-7 decision over Cameron Crisp.
Entering the season ranked 10th in the 149-pound weight class, Tyler Starr took fifth place with a 2-2 record at the meet. Starr earned a first-round bye and earned his first win of the season with a 9-4 decision. The quarterfinal match didn't swing Starr's way as he fell in a close 13-11 match. Starr's next match was a decision victory scored 8-6 over Timothy McGuire (Wisconsin-Parkside). Starr ended up in the fifth-place match after falling in the consolation round by a 10-9 decision. In the fifth-place match, Starr ended the meet with a 16-1 technical fall win.
Rounding out the placements in the gold Sikorski placed sixth in the 125-pound division, Harrison Konder took sixth in the 165-pound class, and Jared Gumila joined with a sixth-place finish at 174 pounds. Jake Luce placed eighth in the 174-pound weight class, going 2-2 in the process.
In the silver division, Jared Craig won the 125-pound weight class. Joining Craig as a silver division winner are Xavier Villalobos at 133 pounds, Matthew Maldonado at 141 pounds, Henry Rydwelski at 184 pounds, AJ Frescura at 197 pounds, and Luke Chrisse at 285 pounds.
North Central will travel to Wheaton College on Tuesday, Nov. 11, for a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) dual inside of King Arena as they look to extend their CCIW duals win streak to 58.
