Cardinals Extend CCIW Winstreak to 58, Silence Thunder 44-6

WHEATON, Ill. (Nov. 11, 2025)- Competing in its first dual of the 2025–26 season, the No. 10-ranked North Central College men's wrestling team extended its College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) duals win streak to 58 with a 44-6 victory over Wheaton College inside King Arena on Tuesday afternoon. 

North Central earned two victories in the 125- and 133-pound weight classes via forfeit to take a 12-0 lead out of the gate. Gaining the victories for North Central were Cameron Phillips (125 pounds) and Joey Sikorsky (133 pounds).  


The first match of the afternoon featured Jad Alwawi and Aidan Laird in the 141-pound division. Alwawi picked up a third North Central victory in the dual with an 8-4 decision to give the Cardinals a 15-0 lead. 


The Cardinals' dominance continued into the 149-pound match as 10th-ranked Tyler Starr faced Cole Coppess. Starr dominated the match, scoring a 22-6 technical fall victory, finishing the match in five minutes and 15 seconds. 


Holding Wheaton scoreless with a 20-0 lead, Tagg Miller wrestled for North Central in the 157-pound match as he took on Caleb Cox. Cox got the better of Miller in the match, earning a pinfall victory in four minutes and 38 seconds to get Wheaton on the board 20-6. 


Harrison Konder brought the momentum back for the Cardinals in the 165-pound bout, where he defeated Nicholas Bittner by an 11-0 major decision. The major decision put North Central back on the board, giving them a 24-6 lead. 


The Cardinals finished the dual meet strong beginning with Jake Luce at 174 pounds. Luce was able to finish the match over Taggert Kazmierczak with a 19-2 technical fall in five minutes and 15 seconds, giving the Cardinals a 29-6 advantage. 


Henry Rydwelski followed that performance up with a 19-3 technical fall in the 184-pound match. Rydwelski took five minutes and 17 seconds to finish the match over Jack Barron, extending the Cardinals' lead to 34-6. 


At 197 pounds, AJ Frescura picked up the victory with a 20-5 technical fall over Sean King as the match lasted seven minutes. The victory put North Central ahead 39-6 with one match remaining. 


The 285-pound bout had Luke Chrisse square off with Alex Copestick, which ended in a fourth consecutive technical fall for the Cardinals. In a match lasting three minutes and 37 seconds, Chrisse defeated Copestick in a 20-3 technical fall, securing North Central's 44-6 victory. 


The Cardinals won nine of the 10 matches in the dual against Wheaton while winning five of the matches by technical fall, two by forfeit, one by major decision, and one by decision. 


No. 10-ranked North Central (1-0, 0-0 CCIW) hits the mat again on Saturday, Nov. 15, as they take on the No. 7-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (1-1, 1-0 WIAC) in Whitewater, Wis. The dual meet is set to begin at 1 p.m. inside of Kachel Fieldhouse.
