ST. LOUIS, Mo. (Nov. 15, 2025) - The North Central College women's soccer team won the physical battle against Loras College at Francis Olympic Field in St. Louis Saturday afternoon, taking down the Duhawks 3-1 for the team's first NCAA win in program history. The Cardinals advance to the second round and will face top-seeded Washington University in St. Louis tomorrow, Sunday, Nov. 16 at 1 p.m.

Not only was it the first NCAA win for the program, it also marks the first time the Cardinals have downed the Duhawks in program history.

The Cardinals cracked the scoreboard first after being awarded a corner kick in the third minute. Jordan Lange serviced it in, but the pass was broken up by a group in the box. With the Duhawks keeper unable to keep a hold on the ball, senior captain Kassandra Salviola was in prime position to deliver the first goal of the game.

Loras found their equalizer in the 19th minute after a high bounce created separation and misjudgment on both sides. Just one Duhawk was able to track it down and sent a quick shot to the back of the net. Loras put another shot on goal just two minutes later but a clutch diving save by Lily Mattison kept it tied up at 1-1.

Through 45 minutes of play, the Cardinals trailed two shots to Loras' six. Crucial efforts by Mattison in goal with three saves kept the game deadlocked at 1-1 heading into the second half.

North Central found its chance to move ahead in the 56th minute. Lange had a one-on-one matchup with her defender before the junior shook down the Duhawk and took a shot from the top of the 18-yard box to regain the 2-1 lead.

The second half grew more physical as the minutes drew on with three yellow card assessments and 10 total foul calls. North Central carried its lead into the final minutes with Loras frantically trying to get the ball across the midline. With under 30 seconds to play, Lange swooped in for a takeaway, bypassing her defender and beating the Duhawks keeper for a wide-open look at the net. Lange buried a right-footed shot for the go-ahead goal.

Loras totaled 10 shots in the contest while North Central took eight but it was the Cardinals efficiency that claimed the victory with six on goal compared to Loras' five. Cardinal keeper, Mattison, recorded four saves in the win while the Duhawks goalie had three.

North Central turns its attention to its NCAA Second Round contest against host school WashU tomorrow at 1 p.m. The two teams squared off early in the season where the Bears came away with a narrow 1-0 win.
