PISCATAWAY, New Jersey (Nov. 3, 2025) – For the fourth straight year, the North Central College women's wrestling team had representation at the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) All-Star Classic, with junior
Bella Mir crowned champion in her 160-pound match against Life University's Latifah McBryde at Rutgers University's Jersey Mike's Arena on Saturday, Nov. 1.
Â
The NWCA All-Star Classic, known for highlighting NCAA vs NAIA matchups, had 10 highly ranked Division 1 men's folkstyle matchups, along with four cross-divisional women's freestyle matches and one D2 vs D3 men's match. Of all 30 competitors, Mir was just one of two Division III student-athletes to compete at the All-Star Classic, along with Mark Samuel from Roanoke College.
Â
Mir is the sixth Cardinal to compete at the All-Star Classic, joining
Yelena Makoyed (2022),
Sydney Petzinger (2023),
Yele Aycock (2023),
Kendra Ryan (2024), and
Amani Jones (2024).
Â
Saturday's match was the third meeting between Mir and McBryde, with the two trading pins in 2022 and 2023. Mir had the most recent win, pinning McBryde at the 2023 Soldier Salute. McBryde is the reigning NAIA National Champion at 160 pounds after being runner-up the previous two years.
Â
Mir, who is ranked No. 1 in the NCAA at 145 pounds, made the jump to the 160-pound weight class for this event. Nonetheless, after trailing 1-0 with 39 seconds on the clock in the first round, Mir scored a two-point take down against McBryde and rode out the 2-2 decision win on criteria.
North Central is back in action on Saturday, Nov. 8 for the Adrian Duals at the Merillat Center in Adrian, Mich. The Cardinals will also compete in the Adrian College Invite on Sunday.
