Nov. 6, 2025 - The North Central College men's cross country team had a squad compete in a short three-mile race at the Red & White Invitational on Thursday, Nov. 6 to tee up next week's Midwest Regional Championship. Sophomore Rylan Deichen won the race at St. James Farm, notching the first race win of his career, and leading the Cardinals to its third perfect score of the season.

With 38 total runners in the field it was just North Central and Moody Baptist Institute who ran complete teams. The Cardinals won the race with 15 points with Moody Baptist taking second with 50 points.

North Central formed a solid pack up at the front with just a few unattached runners in the mix. From the start line, Deichen extended a boastful lead that only grew larger throughout the course. The sophomore finished the three-mile race in a time of 14:41.20 for his first race win of his cross country career.

With eyes on Deichen, Bryce Chamberlin established himself as the Cardinals No. 2 runner as he finished third overall in 14:49.00 but was the runner-up of collegiate participants. With two more unattached athletes following Chamberlin, Luke Cerwin crossed the finish line in sixth but third as far as scorers. Cerwin posted a time of 15:06.60 followed by Connor Reed in seventh with a time of 15:09.90. Matthew McKee and Noah Gilbert crossed the finish line one after another in eighth (15:16.40) and ninth (15:17.00), respectively. Ryan Day was not far behind, clocking a 15:18.70 time to finish 10th as North Central's seventh runner. In total, the Cardinals put 19 runners in the top 25.

The Cardinals return to championship season next Saturday, Nov. 15 as they head to Waverly, Iowa for the NCAA Midwest Regional Championship hosted by Wartburg College.
