Swimming and Diving Continues Season At Olivet Triangular

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. (Nov. 8, 2025)- The North Central College swimming and diving team continued their 2025-26 season on the road in Bourbonnais, Ill., where they competed in the Olivet Nazarene Triangular featuring Olivet Nazarene University and Illinois Wesleyan University. The Cardinals placed third in both men's and women's action. 

On the men's side, North Central had Mihir Chandra and Griffin Laurin in action competing in five total races. Both swam in the 50-yard freestyle race, where Chandra placed fourth with a time of 22.62 seconds, which shaved off 36 hundredths of a second for a season best. Laurin clocked in a time of 25.48, placing him 10th.  Both swam in the 100-yard freestyle, where Chandra placed seventh with a time of 51.52 seconds and Laurin placed 11th with a time of 56.28 seconds. Wilson also swam in the 100-yard backstroke, where he placed fourth with a time of 1:08.24. 


The women's day saw a personal best in the 1000-yard freestyle by Amelia Minarik, in which she clocked in a time of 12:58.57 for fourth place. She improved by 6.80 seconds for her new personal best. The team also saw five season bests from the meet, beginning with Celina McDaniel in the 50-yard freestyle, where she finished in 29.31 seconds, a 2.32-second improvement, and a 13th-place finish. McDaniel also shaved off 63 hundredths of a second in the 100-yard fly, clocking in a time of 1:08.35, for eighth place. Abigael Sheldon joined in with two new season bests, with one coming in the 200-yard individual medley, where she placed second with a time of 2:25.73, improving by .70 seconds. In the 100-yard breaststroke, Sheldon placed fourth with a time of 1:13.51, improving her season best by 2.32 seconds. Victoria Robinson's season's best came in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:25.15, good for ninth place. Robinson's finish made for a 1.53-second improvement this season. The 200-yard medley relay for the women featured Addison Bludgen, Sheldon, McDaniel, and Ayla Pequette, where they placed fourth with a time of 2:02.83. Despite the slow start, the Cardinals finished strong to secure fourth place. 


The team scoring in the men's events had Olivet Nazarene take first place with 478 points, followed by Illinois Wesleyan with 476.2 and North Central in third with 376.8. The women's team scoring had Olivet Nazarene place first with 426.6 points, Illinois Wesleyan in second scoring 414.6 points, followed by North Central with 368.7 points. 


The Cardinals have a second consecutive triangular on the schedule as they travel to Beloit, Wis., where they face Beloit College and Milwaukee School of Engineering on Saturday, Nov. 15, at 1 p.m.
