Women’s Wrestling Wins Three at Adrian Duals

ADRIAN, Mich. (Nov. 8, 2025) - In its first dual competitions of the season, the North Central College women's wrestling team closed out the Adrian Duals on Saturday, Nov. 18 with a 3-1 record. The Cardinals recorded dual wins over King University (31-13), No. 18 Tiffin University (46-0), and No. 14 West Liberty University (33-9) while falling to second-ranked McKendree University (24-18).

No. 3 North Central 18,  No. 2 McKendree 24

North Central opened the day facing No. 2 McKendree University in the first round of duals. McKendree scored the first points of the dual as Maddie Avila fell to Heather Crull in a 12-3 decision at 103 pounds, followed by third-ranked Kaelani Shufeldt's (110) narrow loss to second-ranked Gabriele Tedesco in a narrow 10-8 decision. Yu Sakamoto managed to pin Mikayla Garcia in the 117 pound match. 

Sara Sterner got the first win of the day for the Cardinals at 124 pounds as she pinned Gabriella Gomez (4:55) to add five points to the team score but North Central still trailed 11-7. Shelby Moore moved up a weight class to take on Yele Aycock (131) but the battle went to Moore by way of a 3-1 decision. Grace Stem fell to Haylie Jaffe at 138 pounds in a 11-0 technical fall but top-ranked Bella Mir followed it up with a 10-0 technical fall over Alexis Gomez at 145 pounds to add four more points to the team total. Taylor Graveman (160) and Shenita Lawson (180) were both defeated in decisions as Graveman fell to Savannah Gomez 11-4 and Lawson to Destiny Rodriguez 6-0. Senior Dasia Yearby (207) needed all of 31 seconds to pin Allison Evans, but North Central ultimately fell 24-18 to No. 2 McKendree.

No. 3 North Central 31, King (Tenn) 13

North Central's second dual of the day started off with Avila falling in a slim 5-2 decision to Kristina Kent but Shufeldt made quick work to shift the score in favor of the Cardinals. Shufeldt notched her first win of the day against King's Amelia Murphy, by way of a 12-2 technical fall at 110 pounds. Garcia (117) followed it up with a 10-0 technical fall over Avery Kibelbek teeing up Carissa Qureshi's (124) match against Jada Pichardo where Qureshi used just 38 seconds to pin Pichardo to put the Cardinals up by 10, 14-4. Virginia Foard defeated Aycock in a 8-4 decision but Stem answered with a dominating 10-0 technical fall over Ruby Julie-Newsom at 138 pounds. Caylynn Chandler did the same in the 145 weight class, taking down Kristyn Harr in a 10-0 tech fall. Sydney Perry battled Stella Steigler in the 160 weight class, coming out ahead with a 4-1 decision. Jael Miller added five points to the Cardinals' team score by way of a forfeit. King notched five points with Eliana Bommarito's pin against Caroline Ward but the North Central still claimed the dual win, their first of the season, 31-13.

No. 3 North Central 46, No. 18 Tiffin 0

The Cardinals ran the table in its third dual of the day against Tiffin University (Ohio). Justine Perez (103), Bella Bolek (117) and Tirza Twoteeth (207) put an automatic 15 points on the board for North Central taking their matches by forfeit. Eliana Paramo (110) pinned Charlize Distel at the 1:42 mark while Sterner also won by fall, taking down No. 8 ranked Annesley Day (2:20). London Woods (138) defeated Anari Roberts in a 10-0 technical fall, her third win by tech fall of the season. Taylor Miess ran just 27 seconds off the clock before pinning Lina Lingo in the 138 pound bout. Mir (145), Elizabeth Rosenstiel (160) and Miller (180) each contributed four points to the Cardinals 46-0 win over Tiffin. Mir took down Gennaveve Matt with a 10-0 technical fall, Rosenstiel defeated Malaya Foster in an 11-0 technical fall, and Miller won with a 10-0 technical fall over Erin Martin. 

No. 3 North Central 33, No. 14 West Liberty 9

The Cardinals final match of the day against 14th-ranked West Liberty University was led by three pins and a pair of technical falls. Qureshi and Lynn Horn scored five team points apiece with wins by forfeit. Just 42 seconds into the 103-pound match, Zurri Zamora notched her first pin of the season against Sydney Chambers. West Liberty's Mariah Mills added points to the team score with an 11-0 technical fall over Amaya Yoshizumi (110) but Nadia Thomas got the points back on a 10-0 technical fall over Sienna Van Balen AT 117 pounds. Layla Morris notched her third pin of the season against fourth-ranked Cassie Zammit in the 131-pound bout (1:44). The 145-weight class went into extras as Natalie Klavetter outlasted Grace O'Korn 7-3 in overtime. West Liberty's only other points came from Makyah Newlun's pin over Caitlyn Flaherty at 160-pounds but Miller's 10-0 technical fall over Isabell Kessey and Tirza TwoTeeth's pin of Jamie Shapton in the 207 bout sealed North Central's 33-9 win, and the third dual win of the day. 

The Cardinals will be back in the Merillat Center tomorrow Sunday, Nov. 9 for the Adrian College Invitational. Opening bouts are set for a 10 a.m. ET start.
