ADRIAN, Mich. (Nov. 9, 2025) – Following a strong performance at the Adrian Duals on Saturday, the North Central College women's wrestling team closed out its weekend trip in Michigan with three Cardinals posting first-place finishes in their respective weight classes at the Adrian College Invite on Sunday, Nov. 9.
The Cardinals totaled 421.5 points for the team win, followed by Presbyterian College with 266 points, and Grand Valley State University in third with 232 points.Â
Sara Sterner dominated in the 124 'A' bracket, swiftly moving to a 4-0 record on the day while taking down three ranked opponents. After receiving a bye in the opening round, Sterner, who ranks fourth nationally at 124 pounds, took down sixth-ranked Alyssa Mahan of Presbyterian in a 6-3 decision. Sterner went on to pin King's Jada Pichardo in the quarterfinal (2:12) before meeting No. 8 Annesley Day (Tiffin) in the semifinal. Sterner defeated Day in a 7-4 decision before upsetting No. 3 Aspen Blasko of Grand Valley by way of an 8-5 decision to win the 124 'A' bracket. Â
Taylor Graveman moved up weight classes and won the 160 'A' bracket with a perfect 5-0 record on the day. Graveman used just 48 seconds to pin Haley Diaz of Indiana Tech in the opening round and followed it up with an 11-0 technical fall over Isabella Gretzinger of Presbyterian. She then went on to win the quarterfinal and semifinal matches with a pair of decisions (13-8, 10-8) before taking down sixth-ranked Savannah Gomez (McKendree) with an efficient 11-0 technical fall.
The 180 'A' weight class came down to a North Central battle in the first-place match. Third-ranked
Shenita Lawson defeated Mickaela Keane (Northern Michigan) in a 6-0 decision and went on to win the quarterfinal and semifinal matches with a pair of 11-0 technical falls over Alison Evans (McKendree) and Madeline Hodges (Sacred Heart) to meet teammate
Jael Miller in the first-place match. Miller opened the day with back-to-back pins over Northern Michigan's Abbie Miles (1:52) and Davenport's Fevin Coleman (2:05). Miller notched a pair of technical falls against Grand Valley's Maddison Ward (12-2) and sixth-ranked Bella Phillips of Gannon (8-0). Lawson (4-0) won the first-place match with Miller (4-1) taking second in the slim 8-7 decision.
Eliana Paramo competed in the 110 'B' bracket where she cruised to a second-place finish and a 4-1 record on the day. Paramo won her opening match in a 7-2 decision over Elizabeth Gonzales of Rochester before taking down her next two opponents with a pair of technical falls over Sharon Moreno of Aurora (11-0) and Jaelynn McIntosh of Lindsey Wilson (10-0) in the quarterfinal. An 8-2 decision over Liliana Greenfield of Indiana Tech in the semifinal sent Paramo to the championship match where she ultimately fell to Emma Bauknight in a 10-0 technical fall.
Nadia Thomas took second in the 117 'B' bracket with a 3-1 record. Thomas opened the day with a 10-0 technical fall over Manchester's Tzuriya Phillips. A bye in the second round put Thomas in the quarterfinal where she won by a 15-11 decision over Audrey Smith (Lindsey Wilson). In the semifinal match, Thomas notched an 18-8 technical fall win against Addy Crane of John Carroll but was pinned by McKendree's Norah Swaim in the final.
The 138 'A' bracket featured three Cardinals all of whom placed in the top-five.
Grace Stem led the way with a second-place finish and a 3-1 record. After a bye in the first round, Stem secured a 10-0 technical fall win over Mason Harsch (Adrian) before notching back-to-back pins in the quarter and semifinals Stem's only loss on the day came at the hands of third-ranked Carina Giangeruso of Presbyterian in a 10-0 technical fall in the finals.
Lynn Horn placed third in the 138 'A' bracket with a 4-1 record. Horn won her first two matches by way of a pin over Presbyterian's Zoe Griffith (5:15) and a narrow 3-1 decision over Lili Ujfalvi of Gannon. Her only loss of the day came against Giangeruso in a 4-1 decision, sending Horn to the consolation bracket where she met teammate
Taylor Miess. Horn ultimately pinned Miess and went on to win the third-place match in a 4-0 decision over Aurora's Sarah Ball. Miess finished the day in fifth with a 4-2 record that included three pins.
Madison Avila placed third in the 103 'A' weight class with a 4-1 record. No. 3 Avila opened the day with a  10-0 technical fall in the first round before taking down No. 6 Genesis Ramirez (Aurora) in an 8-1 decision. Avila's only loss on the day came in the semifinal, but the senior battled back by pinning ninth-ranked Jada Badayos-Chavez (Gannon) in the consolation and winning by a 2-0 decision against Ramirez again in the third-place match.
Third-ranked
Kaelani Shufeldt turned in a third-place finish in the 110 'A' bracket and finished the day with a 4-1 record that included three technical falls and a pin. In the 117 'A' weight class,
Mikayla Garcia suffered a loss in the semifinals to end up in the consolation bracket but she managed to battle back for the third-place finish. Garcia posted a 4-1 record with all four wins coming by way of technical falls.
After a bye in the first round,
Carissa Qureshi faced a tough battle in her first match of the day going up against third-ranked Aspen Blasko of Grand Valley where she fell in a 5-0 decision. Qureshi mounted quite the comeback, finishing with a 5-1 record on the day to place third in the 124 'A' bracket. Qureshi totaled three technical falls, one being against eighth-ranked Annesley Day (Tiffin), along with one pin and one decision.
In the 207 'A' bracket,
Caroline Ward turned in a 5-1 record to place fifth while recording three pins, a technical fall and a decision.
North Central opens College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin action with a dual against Illinois Wesleyan University on Monday, Nov. 17 at 6 p.m. in Bloomington, Ill.
