Feb. 1, 2025 - Kicking off the spring schedule against the defending national champions and No. 1 ranked University of Chicago, the North Central College men's tennis team fell 7-0 Saturday night inside Naperville Tennis Club.

The Maroons took care of business at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to claim the match's first point. Ramon Vilarroig Martinez and Matthew Sengphommachanh took Alexander Ekstrand and Andrei Leonov to the brink, but ultimately fell in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-3). 

In singles play, UChicago won No. 1-4 in straight sets to claim the match victory. Henry Ros took his Maroon opponent, Pat Otero, to a decisive third set, but lost 2-6, 6-2, 3-10 at the No. 5 position. In his first match as a Cardinal, Ignacio Hernandez Ruiz batted Jack Wong to a tiebreak, but fell 6-3, 1-6, 2-6 in the No. 6 fixture.

The Cardinals return to the court on Saturday, Feb. 8 with a road match at Kalamazoo College. North Central beat the Hornets 9-0 a season ago in Naperville. This year, the match will be played at Markin Tennis Center at 1 p.m. (ET).
