Feb. 28, 2025 - Taking on another ranked opponent this spring, the North Central College men's tennis team fell behind early and never overcame the power of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawks as the Caridnals fell 5-2 on Friday night inside Naperville Tennis Club.
UW-Whitewater controlled the match early by winning No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Henry Ros and Justin Penados took Drew Van Fossen and Giovanni Vitali to the brink, but the visitors prevailed, 7-6 (7-4) to sweep doubles play.
Ignacio Ruiz Hernandez picked up the lone Caridnals victory in singles as he earned a comeback 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 win at the No. 6 position. Ros battled Van Fossen to a 6-2, 7-5 match, but fell in a tight contest at No. 4. In the final match of the night, Ramon Vilarroig Martinez and Reuben Giorgio went the distance, with Vilarroig Martinez ultimately winning 3-6, 7-5, 10-7 at the No. 1 fixture.
North Central returns to the court Saturday for a match against Hope College inside Naperville Tennis Club. The first serve is set for 7 p.m.
