ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (Feb. 9, 2025) - The North Central College women's wrestling team finished off their regular season at the D3 Quad Cities Invite on Sunday afternoon. The small group of Cardinal wrestlers finished in sixth place while
Eden Hernandez finished the weekend in first place.

Wartburg College was named tournament champion with 182.5 points. The University of Wisconsin Stevens Point earned second place (147), followed closely by Simpson College (146.5). Aurora University finished in fourth place (113.5) and Schreiner University (100) closed out the top-five teams.

Hernandez started the day with a bye in the first round of the 117-pound weight class. In the second round with just 40 seconds on the clock, Hernandez pinned Aurora's Sharon Moreno. Hernandez continued to pin her way to the finals, taking down Randolph College's Kylie Brigman (2:56) and Carthage College's Natalie Majer (1:41). In the championships, Hernandez defeated Stevens Point's Rose Ann Marshall with a 10-2 decision. Hernandez finished the day in first-place with a spotless 4-0 record.

In the 145 division,
Caylynn Chandler received a bye before defeating Adele Senzig (Carthage) with a 12-1 technical fall. Chandler took Adrian University's Isabel Worthing with a 10-0 technical fall before edging out May Prado (Wartburg College) in a nail-biting 8-6 decision. In the finals, Chandler fell to Annelise Obermark from Simpson (Pin 0:28). Chandler took home a second-place finish.

Clare Waite was also in the 145 class. Waite earned a technical fall over Keaton Hood (Albion College) and then took a decision win over Cornell College's Olivia Colton (9-6). In the quarterfinals, Waite pinned Schreiner's Azana King (2:27). Waite fell to Annelise Obermark (Simpson) by a technical fall but bounced back to defeat Augustana College's Aine Moffif with a 7-2 decision. Waite earned a third-place finish with a 7-2 decision win over May Prado (Wartburg).

Eliana White-Vega (131) earned three consecutive pins over Simpson's Dionni Garcia-Vasquez (0:58), Alma College's Carly Cowles (0:43), and Carthage's Bopasoreya Quintana (1:36). White-Vega fell to Kylie Rule (Wartburg) by a technical fall (11-0) but defeated Schreiner College's Jania Dunigan with a 4-2 decision. White-Vega fell to Natasha Markoutsis (Aurora) and took fourth place.

Also earning three consecutive pins was
Taylor Miess in the 138 weight class. First pinning Manchester University's Sian Rogers (2:21), followed by Adrian's Samantha Bultron (1:51), and Stevens Point's Cadie Percy (5:48). Miess fell to Paige Gershmel (Simpson) by a 7-2 decision and Brooke Shuenemann (Stevens Point) by a 12-2 technical fall. Miess earned fifth place by defeating teammate
Sydney Park with a 6-0 decision.

The Cardinals will have a couple of weeks off to prepare for the NCWWC Regional Championship on Saturday, Feb. 22, hosted by Adrian College in Adrian, Mich. Tournament time to be announced.
