ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Mar. 15, 2025) – The North Central College women's track and field team achieved three First-Team All-American marks and finishes at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Track and Field Indoor Championships between
Gwen Berenyi on day one and
Lindsey Novak on day two.
Starting competition for the Cardinals on Friday, Berenyi took flight in the women's pole vault for the first time in her career at the NCAA DIII Indoor Championships. She soared to a final mark of 3.97 meters (13' 0.25") to climb to fifth place on the podium and earn her first indoor First-Team All-American height. Berenyi reflected on the achievement explaining, "I was making a third attempt on the last couple bars and I was freaking out a little bit… In the end, it was my mental strength that brought me through it.".
Novak qualified on the first day in both the 400 and 200-meter dashes, marking in a third place finish in 56.22 seconds (400m) and narrowly qualifying in eighth in 24.85 seconds (200m). Both final events the following day, she finished in eighth place for First-Team All-American honors to tally her seventh and eighth career honor including outdoor seasons. She finished in 56.50 seconds in the 400-meter dash and 25.14 seconds in the 200-meter dash. Reflecting on the achievement, "It is a very surreal feeling. I had two goals this season: I really wanted to break the school's 400 record, and I wanted to get All-American in indoors. I've never done that before, so it's a nice feeling to know that I came back during my grad year and was able to do it." Novak continued with, "The job's not finished. It's crazy to think about, but we have 10 more weeks of outdoor, and this year, the reality of this being my last year has soaked in, so I'm very excited for outdoors."
North Central now prepares for the first meet of the outdoor season hosting the First Chance Invitational at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium. Access the full schedule
