Strong Doubles Play Leads Men’s Tennis Past Panthers

GREENVILLE, Ill. (Mar. 21, 2025) - After a 10-day hiatus, the North Central College men's tennis team returned to the courts with a sweep of doubles play to propel the Cardinals past Greenville University, 5-1 Friday evening.

Henry Ros and Justin Penados secured the first North Central victory of the day with a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles before Ramon Vilarroig Martinez and Matthew Sengphommachanh cruised to a 6-2 win over Rafael Rodriguez and Clark Kent at the top spot. Completing the doubles sweep was Rafael Lessa and Philipp Wottgen with a 7-5 win at No. 2.

With a 1-0 lead entering singles play, Lessa rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 4. Finishing right after No. 4, Ros beat Kent 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 6 fixture. Clinching the match victory for North Central was Vilarroig Martinez with a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles. Sengphommachanh and Ignacio Hernandez Ruiz each won their matches to give North Central a 6-1 win over Greenville.

The Cardinals continue their non-conference schedule tomorrow with a match against No. 12 Washington University in St. Louis at 10 a.m. at Tao Tennis Center.
