Men’s Tennis Drops Ranked Contest to No. 12 WashU

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (Mar. 22, 2025) - In their final tune-up before College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin play, the North Central College men's tennis team fell 7-0 to No. 12 Washington University in St. Louis on Saturday.

Rafael Lessa and Philipp Wottgen gave the Bears their toughest doubles battle at No. 2 as WashU held on for a 7-5 win to complete the doubles sweep after winning No. 1, 6-3, and No. 3, 6-2. In singles play, Ramon Villaroig Martinez won the opening set 6-3 against Colin Scruggs but ultimately fell 6-3, 0-6, 10-12 at the top spot. The Bears won the rest of the singles matches in straight sets.

The Cardinals begin CCIW play on Friday as they visit Carroll University for a match at Jean Kilgour-Trailblazer Tennis Complex in Waukesha, Wis. North Central has won the past seven matches against the Pioneers.
