ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (Apr. 12, 2025) - Dropping their first College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin match of the season, the North Central College men's tennis team lost 4-3 to Augustana College Saturday afternoon at the Lincoln Tennis Courts.

Rafael Lessa and Philipp Wottgen evened the doubles score with a 6-3 win at No. 2 after the Vikings won at No. 3. Earning the team doubles point, Ramon Vilarroig Martinez and Matthew Sengphommachanh picked up a clutch 6-4 win at No. 1.

Sengphommachanh took care of business at No. 2 with a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Gabriel Luna. Augustana tied the contest at 2-2 with wins at No. 3 and No. 4. Vilarroig Martinez earned a hard-fought 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 victory at the top spot to bring the Cardinals within a point of a team win. Augustana had other plans, winning matches at No. 5 and 6 to claim a 4-3 win.

The Cardinals return to the courts Wednesday with a match against Elmhurst University at the Brune Tennis Courts. The first serve is set for 4 p.m.
