Cardinals Conclude Regular Season with 4-3 Loss to UWW

WHITEWATER, Wis. (Apr. 13, 2025)Taking on their second ranked team of the weekend, the North Central College women's tennis team fell 4-3 in a tight match to No. 68 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on Sunday afternoon at Warhawk Tennis Complex.

Abigail Penados and Natalie Bassett teamed up to take down Gracie Ha and Abigail Weaver, 6-1 at the No. 1 position. The Warhawks claimed victories at No. 2 and 3 to take the doubles point into singles action.

Penados rolled to a 6-2, 6-2 win over Ha at the top spot in singles. Kensington Payne also cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 3 over Weaver. Evening the contest at 3-3, Kate Herlihy rolled to a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 5 over Sarah Feruson. In the final match of the day, Molly Asfeld held off Bassett 7-5, 7-5 to secure the win for UW-Whitewater.

North Central begins the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Tournament on Thursday, April 24 as the No. 1 seed. The Cardinals will face the winner of No. 8 Millikin University and No. 9 Elmhurst University in the quarterfinals, beginning at 9 a.m. at Evergreen Racquet Club in Bloomington, Ill.
