Apr. 19, 2025 - The North Central College men's lacrosse team fell to Carthage College 12-3 in Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Â
Carthage opened up scoring after capitalizing on a Cardinal penalty. The Firebirds held their momentum, scoring three unanswered goals. The first period ended with Carthage up 4-0.
Â
Ty Nagy and
Luke Paris recorded consecutive shots to begin the second period. Unfortunately, the shots were off-target, going high and wide, respectively. The Firebirds added another two goals to their lead before
Dylan Andersen fired the ball into the back of the net for his 14th goal of the season and the Cardinal's first of the day (6-1). A wide shot from the Carthage attack ran down the clock to end the period.
Â
The Wisconsin offense struck first in the third period with two consecutive goals (8-1).
Dalton Lutz set
Wyatt Hunt up in front of the net, putting the ball past the Firebirds goaltender Jake Williamson with eight minutes and eight seconds left of the period (8-2). Paris fed off the team's energy and, just two minutes later, scored his sixth goal of the season (8-3).
Evan Watanabe picked up a ground ball with 24 seconds left on the clock, which ultimately led to a goal attempt by Nagy. Unfortunately, Nagy's shot was saved by Carthage's goalkeeper. The Firebirds were caught offside, giving the Cardinals a man-up opportunity at the beginning of the fourth period.
Â
North Central entered the final period with momentum. Nagy and
Cole Westphal recorded back-to-back goal attempts, but Williamson stopped both. The Carthage attack racked up four unanswered goals and enhanced their lead to 12-3. The Cardinals continued to battle and recorded three consecutive shots in the last 33 seconds but could not get into the back of the net.
Â
North Central will be back in Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium at 1 p.m. next Saturday, Apr. 26, for senior day against Elmhurst University.
