WHEATON, Ill. (Apr. 26, 2025) - Winning a share of their fourth College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Championship in program history, the North Central College men's tennis team defeated Wheaton College, 6-1 on Saturday evening, to finish with a 6-1 record in conference play.
Ramon Vilarroig Martinez and Matthew Sengphommachanh cruised to a 6-1 victory at No. 1 doubles, beating Tim Steiner and Jacob Williams. Clinching the doubles point, Rafael Lessa and Philipp Wottgen earned a 6-4 win at No. 2. Sweeping doubles action, Ignacio Hernandez Ruiz and Justin Penados battled to a 7-5 win at the No. 3 fixture.
Lessa claimed the first singles win with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Corin Tang. After Vilarroig Martinez won at the top spot, Sengphommachanh secured the team title with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Williams. Hernandez Ruiz and Wottgen each won their respective matches to capture a 6-1 win over the Thunder.
North Central heads to the upcoming CCIW Tournament, which begins Thursday, May 1. The three-day tournament will be hosted by Augustana College at the Lincoln Tennis Courts
