STERLING, Ill. (May 1, 2025) - Playing as the tournament's top seed, the North Central College men's tennis team won their 13th straight match over Elmhurst University in a 4-0 sweep on Thursday morning as the Cardinals advance to the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Semifinals.

Ignacio Hernandez Ruiz and Justin Penados cruised to a 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles before All-CCIW First Team selections Ramon Vilarroig Martinez and Matthew Sengphommachanh beat Russell Reyes and Emiliano Montenegro-Galarza, 6-1, at the top spot. Rafael Lessa and Philipp Wottgen were leading 5-0 at No. 2 before the double point was won. 

The 2025 CCIW Player of the Year, Vilarroig Martinez, took down Reyes in just 32 minutes with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles. Sengphommachanh and Lessa won in straight sets to clinch the 4-0 victory. Hernandez Ruiz won the first set 6-0 before the clinch.

North Central moves to the semifinals, where they will face the winner of Wheaton College vs Carroll University. That match is set for 10 a.m. at Lincoln Park in Rock Island, Ill.
