ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (May 2, 2025) - Taking on Wheaton College in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Tournament Semifinals, the North Central College men's tennis team rolled to a 4-0 victory over the Thunder on Friday at Lincoln Park.

Justin Penados and Ignacio Hernandez Ruiz claimed the first victory for the Cardinals with a 6-1 win over Ryder Ward and Toby Schmidt at No. 3. Finishing the doubles point was Ramon Vilarroig Martinez and Matthew Sengphommachanh with a 6-3 win at No. 1.

Philipp Wottgen claimed the first singles victory for North Central with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 5 over Andrew Winters. Henry Ros beat Schmidt 6-3, 6-4 at No. 6 before Vilarroig Martinez defeated Time Steiner 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 to clinch the team victory. Sengpahmmochanh and Rafael Lessa each won their first sets before the clinch.

The Cardinals will face the host, Augustana College, in the CCIW Title match. The Vikings beat North Central in a tight 4-3 match in April. This contest is set for 10 a.m. at Lincoln Park.
