Men’s Cross Country Claims First Win of the Season

Sept. 5, 2025 - In its 2025 season opener, the North Central College men's cross country team turned in an outstanding performance at the NCCXC Invitational at St. James Farm in Warrenville, Ill. The Cardinals swept the top-six collegiate finishes and earned the team win with a perfect score of 15 points.

Following North Central in the team standings was University of Whitewater with 56 points while College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin members Elmhurst University and Wheaton College finished third (105) and fourth (118), respectively. Joliet Junior College was fifth (130) and Harper College finished sixth (133) in team standings.

In typical North Central fashion, the Cardinals took up a strong position right off the start line establishing the lead pack early on. BJ Sorg did not take long to break away from the group, growing a comfortable lead through the first loop. The next seven Cardinals stuck together, with one University of Whitewater runner in the mix.

On the final loop, Sorg maintained a hefty lead before making another push to the finish line, taking the top spot in 24 minutes, 26.10 seconds. Sorg was the only competitor to complete the 8-kilometer course in under 25 minutes.

Sticking together through the whole race, Oscar Frontjes and Jacob Kluckhohn kicked it in on the home stretch, finishing side-by-side in second (25:04.40) and third (25:05.50), respectively. 

With only North Central alumnus Matt Jett breaking up the current Cardinal squad in fourth, the trio of Aidan Armstrong, Owen Dare, and Anthony Eddy crossed the finish line within seconds of each other. Armstrong clocked a 25:22.80 for fifth with Owen Dare just behind at 25:23.50 for sixth, and Eddy closed out the Cardinal's top-six in 25:24.60 for a seventh-place finish. 

In total, the Cardinals had 37 runners competing with 12 finishing in the top-20 overall.

North Central will be back in action Saturday, Sept. 13 for the Aurora Spartan XC Classic. Aurora University will host the event at the Northwestern Medicine Cross Country Course  in Batavia, Ill.
