NAPERVILLE, Ill. (Oct. 14, 2026) – A pair of three-set victories from the No. 1 singles slot earned North Central College women's tennis student-athlete Berkley Klarich her first career College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) weekly honor, the conference announced Wednesday.
Klarich, who hails from Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada, started her week with a back-and-forth victory over Carthage College's top singles player Wednesday. After winning the opening set 6-3, Klarich dropped the second set by the same score. Undeterred, she jumped out to a 4-0 in the third set, breaking her opponent's serve twice in the process, going on to win it 6-2 to secure the point for her squad.
In the Cardinals' Saturday matchup, Klarich took home another three-set victory over Augustana College's top singles player. After trading games to a 3-3 tie in the opening set, Klarich won a pair to give herself a 5-3 lead. Her opponent fought back, winning three straight games to take a 6-5 lead. Klarich, with her back against the wall, responded in resounding form, winning consecutive games to take the set 7-6. After falling in the second set 6-4, Klarich won the tie-breaking third set, outdueling her opponent 1-0 (12-10).
Klarich is 3-3 in CCIW singles play, all from the number one spot in coach Joey Leto's lineup. The honor is the second weekly award for the Cardinals this season. Kate Herlihy, Klarich's doubles partner, won the award two weeks ago.
North Central takes on North Park University this afternoon at 2 p.m. at Naperville North High School.
