April 18, 2026 - The North Central College men's lacrosse team celebrated its five seniors — Jason Smith, Alex Porter, Gavin McBeth, Ty Nagy, and Dominic Rohrer — ahead of its final home contest of the 2026 season. The Cardinals fell to the Elmhurst University Bluejays 22-11 in the Saturday night contest inside Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.

In its first two College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) games, Elmhurst, who is receiving votes in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) national rankings, outscored its opponents 52–2. North Central managed three goals in the first half and finished with a season-high 11 in the loss.

Nagy notched four goals in his senior day game, while freshman Chase Odom recorded his first career hat trick. Wyatt Hunt and Chris Veal put away two goals apiece while Jake Scumaci totaled two assists. Gavin Braley led with seven ground balls and went 13-for-28 at the faceoff X, while Will Sanchez had six scoops. Porter led the team with two caused turnovers and freshman goalie Matthew Cranston made 12 stops in goal.

Elmhurst notched the first goal of the contest, but North Central answered on the ensuing faceoff with an unassisted goal from Chase Odom, the first of his collegiate career. Elmhurst managed to rattle off six more goals over the next seven minutes. Cranston stopped a point-blank shot from the edge of the crease with under two minutes to go, but it only halted the Bluejays temporarily as they put away two more in the final minute of the period. Nevertheless, Veal notched his first career goal with 17 seconds on the clock off the faceoff win and dish from Braley.

The Cardinal defense brought a new level of intensity into the second period, with crucial saves by Cranston that held the Bluejays scoreless for over nine minutes of action. Elmhurst was held to just three goals in the second period. Following a Bluejay penalty, Hunt added a goal in the final minute of the half, but Elmhurst maintained a steady 12-3 lead heading into the break.

A ricocheted shot off the post from Odom saw Nagy score off the rebound to open up the second half. Elmhurst packed on two goals to make it a 14-4 game, but the Cardinals kept on, scoring three in the final two minutes of the third period. Veal notched his second career goal off an assist from Scumaci, cleanly finishing the feed out of the air. Nagy followed with back-to-back goals to build momentum for the Cardinals, including a quick turn-and-shoot sequence set up by another assist from Scumaci.

Hunt scored North Central's fourth straight goal on a long-range rip to kick off the fourth period. Elmhurst broke up the Cardinals' scoring run, putting away three of their own to make it 17-8. Odom scored his second goal of the contest at the 11:20 mark, but the Bluejays were quick to answer as the Cardinals trailed 18-9. Nagy finished off another goal in with under 10 on the clock, but Elmhurst was good for four more goals. Going until the final horn, Odom took a big hit with 24 seconds to go and still managed to score for the first hat trick of his career.

North Central completes the home portion of its schedule and will finish out its regular season on the road, beginning with a trip to Waukesha, Wisconsin, to face Carroll University for another CCIW contest.
