Defense Propels Cardinals To Fourth Consecutive Shutout

NAPERVILLE, Ill. (Sept. 15, 2026) – Playing in their final game of the five-game homestand, the No. 18 North Central College women's soccer team recorded its fourth consecutive shutout with a 1-0 win over the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Tuesday evening inside Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium. The Cardinals improve to 5-0, while Wisconsin-Whitewater drops to 4-2.

North Central controlled the offensive momentum early in the first half, creating several opportunities while limiting the Warhawks' chances. In the 30th minute, Jordan Lange found the back of the net on a shot from outside the box off an assist from junior Reese Anderson, giving the Cardinals a 1-0 lead. The goal marked Lange's sixth of the season. UW-Whitewater only managed to record one first half shot. 

The Cardinals carried the one-goal advantage into halftime. Early in the second half, sophomore midfielder Kara Waishwell put a shot on goal that was saved by the Warhawks' goalkeeper, resulting in the Cardinals' second corner kick of the half. Following a third North Central corner kick, the hosts maintained possession throughout the majority of the second half. 

With 17 minutes remaining in the contest, sophomore goalkeeper Emma Megerle shut down the most promising Warhawk scoring opportunity, tallying the lone Cardinal save of the match. 

Lange put another shot on goal in the waning minutes of the contest. The Cardinal defense stood tall for the rest of the way, blanking a UW-Whitewater team that entered the matchup with the third-most goals scored in Division III. 

North Central outshot UW-Whitewater 8-3, putting four on target. The Cardinals also dominated corner kicks, racking up eight compared to the Warhawks zero. In the win, possession favored North Central, with a 62% clip to the Warhawks' 38%. Lange recorded three shots, with two on goal. Anderson's assist in the 30th minute was good for her first of the year. 

North Central will open up the road slate Saturday, taking on Trine University in Angola, Ind. at 7 p.m. (ET). The Cardinals defeated the Thunder in a 4-2 victory last season.
