ANGOLA, Ind. (Sept. 19, 2026) – The No. 18 North Central College women's soccer team improved to 6-0 on the season Saturday evening, earning its fifth consecutive shutout with a 2-0 victory over Trine University. The Thunder fell to 1-3-3 on the season.

Trine controlled much of the offensive action in the first half, outshooting the Cardinals 7-2, but North Central capitalized on its opportunities to take a 1-0 lead in the 32nd minute. Jordan Lange beat her defender near the corner before sending a cross into the box, where Lily Mayer finished the opportunity in the bottom right corner for her second goal of the season.

The Thunder put four shots on target in the opening half, but sophomore goalkeeper Emma Megerle turned each one away to preserve the Cardinals' lead.

Both defenses settled in during the second half, with neither team recording a shot on goal until the 78th minute. Following a North Central foul, Trine sent a high-arcing free kick into the box and headed the ball toward goal, but Megerle made the save to keep the Thunder off the scoreboard.

Trine created another scoring opportunity with five minutes remaining, but Megerle again came up with the save.

North Central added an insurance goal in the 89th minute when Sissi Loza intercepted the ball and sent a long-range shot over the Thunder goalkeeper and into the net, sealing the 2-0 victory.

Trine held the advantage in shots, 11-5, shots on goal, 6-2, and corner kicks, 2-0. Megerle finished with a career-high six saves in her first career start, earning the first shutout of her career.

North Central returns to action Monday, Sept. 21, traveling to River Forest, Illinois, for a 4 p.m. match against Dominican University. The Cardinals open College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin play Saturday, Sept. 26, hosting Illinois Wesleyan University.
