Derrick Martin has served as an assistant coach with the North Central College wrestling program since 1999.

He was a four-year varsity wrestler from the Cardinals from 1991-95, serving as team captain for three seasons. He was a three-time National Wrestling Coaches Association Scholar All-America selection and won a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin championship at 177 pounds as a senior.

Martin placed third in regional competition at 167 pounds in 1994, then placed second at 177 in 1995 to qualify for the NCAA Division III National Championships. He was also a four-year starter at defensive back for the Cardinals' football team.

Martin graduated from North Central with bachelor's degrees in physics and German in 1995. He received a full academic scholarship to the engineering program at Washington University (Mo.), where he received a degree in civil engineering. He is employed by V3 Consultants in Woodridge.
