AURORA, Ill. (Sep. 10, 2008) – The North Central College women's tennis team recorded its second straight shutout on Wednesday, defeating host Aurora University, 9-0, and improving to 5-0 on the season in dual match competition. The Cardinals have dominated opponents this season, outscoring the opposition 40-5, while outscoring Division III opponents 26-1.
In doubles, Cory Schillerstrom (Fr., Naperville, Ill./Central) and Allison Paschold (Jr., Carlock, Ill/Normal West) picked up the, 8-5, win over Lauren Hastings and Siri Nelson in No.1 spot, for the duo's third straight win. In No. 2 doubles, Christine Heyd (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Conant) and Alicia DeGrado (So., Bloomingdale, Ill./Glenbard North) picked up the, 8-2, win while Melissa Lewis (Bloomingdale, Ill./Glanbard North) and Cristina Madrigal (Jr., Hickory Hills, Ill./Moraine Valley CC) rolled to their third straight doubles win with a, 8-0, rout of Courtney Ksioszk and Jennifer Frick in No. 3 doubles.
In singles, the Cardinals dominated the Spartans, winning all 12 sets. Schillerstrom knocked off Hastings, 6-2, 6-2 in No. 1 singles while DeGrado picked up the, 6-1, 6-2 win in No. 2 singles. Paschold cruised to the, 6-2, 6-0 win in No. 3 singles while Lewis won, 6-1, 6-0 in No. 4 singles. In No. 5 singles, Heyd picked up her 11th straight win of the season with a, 6-2, 6-0 win over Amanda Walden and Madrigal recorded the, 6-1, 6-1 win in No. 6 singles. Heyd is now 11-0 in singles play this season, having played all her matches in the No. 5 position.
With the win, North Central stays perfect at 5-0 in dual match play while Aurora falls to 1-2. Wednesday's victory was the third, 9-0, shutout of the season. The team blanked Dominican University on September 1 in the team's first home match and again on Tuesday against the University of Saint Francis. The team return's to the court on Saturday, September 13, for a pair of matches against Illinois Wesleyan and Augustana College in Bloomington, Ill. The Illinois Wesleyan match is scheduled for noon, while the Augustana match is slated for 3 p.m.
