Sep. 2, 2008 – The North Central College women's tennis squad opened up their 2008 season over the holiday weekend, winning two dual matches while also competing at the Dorothy McClure Tournament hosted by Millikin University. The Cardinals defeated Millikin University, 8-1, on Friday to open up the season and swept Dominican University, 9-0, on Monday in the home opener at Ranchview Park in Naperville.
In the team's season opener against Millikin, Cory Schillerstrom (Fr., Naperville, Ill./Central) defeated Audrey Spelde, 6-0, 6-0, in No. 1 singles and teamed up with Allison Paschold (Jr., Carlock, Ill./Normal West) to down Alyssa Napolitano and Kristen Sproat, 8-2, in No. 1 doubles.
On Saturday the team remained in Decatur, Ill. for the Dorothy McClure Tournament. No team scores were kept at the tournament that saw three North Central players go undefeated. Missy Lewis (Sr., Bloomingdale, Ill./Glenbard North) compiled a 3-0 record playing in the No. 3 and No. 4 singles spots while teammate Christine Heyd (Sr., Elk Grove Village, Ill./Conant) also went 3-0 in the No. 4 and No. 5 singles positions. Paschold was 1-0 in the number three singles position. As a team the Cardinals won 18 of the 27 matches played on the day.
On Monday, North Central dominated Dominican, 9-0, in the team's home opener. The doubles combination of Schillerstrom and Paschold was in top form once again with an, 8-2, win over Julia Filipsk and Gina Cesario in No. 1 doubles. Schillerstrom also picked up the, 6-1, 6-0, victory over Filipsk in No. 1 singles. With the win the Cardinals improve to 2-0 on the season.
North Central returns to the court Tuesday with a match against Lake Forest College (Ill.) with matches slated to begin at 3:30 p.m.
