Cardinals grind out 5-4 win over Foresters

Lake Forest, Ill. (Sep. 25, 2008) – It took 23 days and spanned two venues, but the North Central College women's tennis team etched out the 5-4 win over Lake Forest College in a non-conference dual match. The match began on September 2 at Ranchview Park, but was suspended shortly after doubles play was concluded due to rain. The match was resumed on Thursday, however this time in Lake Forest.

In doubles, Cory Schillerstrom (Fr., Naperville, Ill./Central) and Allison Paschold (Jr., Carlock, Ill./Normal West) picked up the win in the No. 1 spot blanking Lake Forest's Nonie Carson and Sara Bennett 8-0. The Foresters took the No. 2 doubles match while the Cardinals team of Melissa Lewis (sr., Bloomingdale, Ill./Glenbard North) and Cristina Madrigal (Jr., Hickory Hills, Ill./Moraine Valley CC) won the No. 3 doubles match, 8-2, against Viri Del Bosque and Michelle Stroner.

In singles, it was Schillerstrom coming up with the win in the No. 1 spot, defeating Carlson 6-2, 6-3. Paschold won the No. 3 singles match with the 6-1, 6-1, win over Molly Stapleton while Christine Heyd (Sr., Elk Grove Village, Ill./Conant) remaining unbeaten in No. 5 singles defeating Bennett, 6-0, 6-1. Heyd is now 17-0 on the year in singles play. The Foresters won the No. 2, No. 4 and No. 6 singles matches.

With the win the Cardinals improve to 10-1 on the season, matching last seasons win total. The team was 10-5 in 2007. With the loss the Foresters fall to 4-6. North Central heads to Kenosha, Wis. on Saturday, September 27, for a match up against CCIW rival Carthage College. The match is slated to begin at 1 p.m. The Cardinals return home on September 30 for their final home match of the season when Calumet College comes to Ranchview Park.
