Blue Jays clip Cardinals 2-0 in CCIW opener

ELMHURST, Ill. (Sep. 28, 2008) – Elmhurst College scored just nine minutes into the game, en route to a, 2-0, victory over the North Central College women's soccer team in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin season opener for both teams.

The Blue Jays got on the board nine minutes in when Valerie Wesley scored unassisted, drilling a shot from 20 yards out. Courtney Constantino added an insurance goal for Elmhurst, scoring on a header in the 72nd minute.

Elise Manzie (Jr., Naperville, Ill./Central) recorded seven saves on the day in the losing effort, playing all 90 minutes in goal. Her counterpart Jessica Eberle racked up 11 saves to pick up the win. North Central out-shot Elmhurst 11-5 in the second half and held a 15-13 advantage for the game.

With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 4-3-3 on the year and 0-1 in CCIW action while the Blue Jays improve to 5-3 and 1-0 in conference play. North Central has now lost all 13 meetings between the two schools. The team returns home on Wednesday, October 1, when Augustana College comes to Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.
