KENOSHA, Wis. (Apr. 13, 2009)--
The North Central College men's tennis squad saw its four-game win streak come to a halt Monday afternoon, dropping a 6-3 decision to Carthage College at the East Side Tennis and Fitness Club.

In doubles action, the Cardinals won two of three, getting wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. Sam Sweeney and Matt Boguslawski won their eighth straight match at the No. 1 position, knocking off J.T. Delk and Sammy Ramoni, 8-4, while Eric McKee and Josh Clay picked up the 8-3 victory over Andy Schwenke and Alex Maclean.

The Cardinals managed just one win in singles, with regionally ranked Sweeney netting the victory at No. 1 singles. Sweeney, ranked 18th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Region Rankings, used three sets to retire 11th ranked  Jack Schiro, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4, for his fifth straight singles win, improving to 13-2 on the season. The win was his second victory over a regionally-ranked opponent and snapped Schiro's five match win streak.

With the loss, North Central falls to 9-6 overall and 2-1 in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin action while the Red Men improve to 11-4 overall and 2-0 in conference action. The Cardinals return to the courts on Saturday, April 18, traveling down to Eureka, Ill. where the team will face Eureka College and Fontbonne University (Mo.) in a pair of non-conference matches.
