Titans edge past Cardinals, 5-4

Illinois Wesleyan University won two of three doubles matches in what proved to be the winning margin, knocking off the North Central College men's tennis squad, 5-4, Thursday afternoon in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin match at the Beadles-Morse Tennis Courts. Sam Sweeney and Matt Boguslawski picked up the Cardinals lone doubles victory, extending their match win streak to 11.

In doubles, the No. 1 tandem of Sweeney and Boguslawski rolled to win number 15 on the season, edging out the Titan duo of Dan Chang and Paul Ouhrlein, 9-8.

In singles, Sweeney won his eighth straight match at the No. 1 position, improving to 16-2 on the year with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Chang. At No. 4, Josh Clay picked up his 10th victory over the season, rallying from the early defeicit against Michael Christison to win in three sets, 2-6, 6-2, 7-5. Ben Youel netted the team's third singles win of the day, defeating Steve Hayman, 2-6, 6-3, 7-5 in No. 6 singles. Youel has now rattled off three straight wins, improving to 9-2 on the season.

With the loss, North Central falls to 11-7 overall and 2-2 in CCIW action while IWU improves to 10-7 overall and 3-1 in conference competition. The Cardinals return to the courts on Saturday, facing Wartburg College (Iowa) and the University of Dubuque in a pair of duals in Dubuque, Iowa.
