Men's Tennis steamrolls Elmhurst, 8-1

ELMHURST, Ill. (Apr. 9, 2009)-- 
North Central College put together a nearly flawless performance Thursday afternoon, defeating Elmhurst College 8-1 in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin men's tennis match. The win was the Cardinals fourth straight, remaining unbeaten in conference action.

North Central set the tone at the onset, earning a clean sweep in doubles action. The No. 1 duo of Sam Sweeney and Matt Boguslawski picked up the 8-4 win over Dave Douglass and Jarrod Keck while Ben Youel and Gabe Youel earned the victory at No. 2 by an identical score. At No. 3, Eric McKee and Josh Clay squeaked by the Bluejays Jim White and Justin Guenther, 8-6.

In singles, Sweeney took down Elmhurst's No. 1 man Douglass, 6-2, 6-1, for his team-leading 12th victory of the season while Boguslawski blew past Dave Devaney, 6-4, 6-1 for the win at No. 2. Clay and Gabe Youel picked up wins playing at the No. 3 and No. 5 positions while at No. 6 singles, Ben Youel needed three sets to rally for the 4-6, 6-3, 10-6 win over Guenther.

The win improves the Cardinals to 9-5 overall and 2-0 in CCIW play while the Bluejays drop to 4-10 overall and 0-2 in conference. North Central has not lost since returning from its spring break trip to Orlando and will look to continue its winning ways on Monday in Kenosha, Wis., facing Carthage College in a clash of unbeaten conference foes.
