Women's Tennis splits CCIW Doubleheader

WHEATON, Ill. (Sept. 19, 2009) --
The North Central College women's tennis team split a pair of College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin matches on Saturday, downing Augustana College, 6-3, before falling, 9-0, to reigning CCIW Champion Wheaton College in the nightcap.

Against Augustana, the Cardinals took the early lead winning two of the three doubles matches. Elizabeth Micheletti and Allison Paschold cruised to the 8-3 win at No. 2 action while Abigail Conover and Jessica Ignarski slipped by the Viking duo of Emily Doemlad and Sheri Hendricks, 8-6, at No. 3.

In singles, Alicia DeGrado defeated Tricia Crawford, 6-3, 6-2, at No.2 while the Cardinals once again showed their team depth, winning the No. 4 through No. 6 singles matches. Paschold posted the, 6-0, 6-1, win at No.4, Conover coasted to the, 6-2, 6-2, victory at No. 5 while Ignarski edged past Krista Panko, 6-4, 6-1, at the No. 6 singles position.

In the late match against Wheaton, Conover and Ignarski suffered their first doubles dual match defeat of the year, falling 8-3 against Sara Federschmidt and Jill Casserly in No. 3 action.

In singles, Conover's nine match win streak came to a halt, falling 5-7, 6-7 (7-5), to Federschmidt for her first defeat of the season.

The Cardinals (7-2, 2-2 CCIW) return to action on Sunday, taking on Cornell College in a dual match at Ranchview Park.
