Sep. 2, 2009-- The North Central College women's tennis team continued their good fortunes at Ranchview Park, defeating Lake Forest College (Ill.) 6-2 in the season opener in Naperville, Ill. The Cardinals claimed one victory in doubles and won all five of the completed singles matches.
Elizabeth Micheletti and
Allison Paschold defeated the Forester tandem of Molly Stapleton and Sara Bennett, 8-2, in No. 2 doubles while at the No. 3 position
Jessica Ignarski and
Christina Madrigal fell to Lauren Stroner and Natalie Atroshenko in the tie-breaker, 9-8, (7-3).
In singles,
Cory Schillerstrom rebounded from her narrow defeat at No. 1 doubles, needing three sets to retire Melika Celebic, 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 in No. 1 action.
Alicia DeGrado came away with the 6-0, 6-4 victory at No. 2 singles while Micheletti, Paschold and Ignarski recorded wins in the No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 singles positions, respectively.
Christina Madrigal's match at No. 6 singles was unable to be completed.
Since moving to their temporary home at Ranchview Park, the Cardinals have compiled a 5-0 record in dual matches, finishing last season a perfect 4-0 at the home away from home.
The Cardinals (1-0) return to the courts on Saturday, September 5, when they host Illinois Wesleyan University and the University of Saint Francis (Ill.) in a doubleheader at Ranchview Park. North Central is slated to face Illinois Wesleyan at 9 a.m. before facing Saint Francis at 4 p.m.
