Jan. 19, 2010 -- North Central College's Matt Borchardt has been named College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week for his performance at the season opening Private College Invitational hosted by Carthage College.

The junior won the pentathlon at the meet on Friday, provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Division III National Championships after amassing a school record 3,447 points. His performance is currently the second best mark in all of Division III for the 2010 indoor season. Borchardt would follow up that performance by finished tied for second in the high jump the following day after clearing 6'01.5". His combined efforts scored 16 1/3 points for the Cardinals in the team tally.

North Central took the team title, scoring 251 1/6 points to easily outdistance the runner-up and host Red Men's 135 5/6 points. The Cardinals return to action on Friday, January 22, hosting its first ever home meet at the brand new Al B. Carius Track.
