Cardinals Close Season at NCAA Championships

LA CROSSE, Wis. (May 21, 2026) - The North Central College men's track and field team closed out its NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship weekend on Thursday, May 21 in La Crosse, Wisconsin, as Ben Balboa placed 17th in the discus and BJ Sorg was 22nd in the 10,000-meter run. 

Throwing out of flight two in the discus, Balboa's first throw of the day was a 47.00 meter (154'2") effort. He bettered his mark on his second attempt at 47.87m (157'0"), his furthest mark of the day that earned him a 17th-place finish in his first NCAA appearance.

In the final event of the night, Sorg endured cooling temperatures into the 50's during the 10,000m run. From the start line Sorg settled into the top 16 early on but slowly fell back as the race continued. He clocked a time of 30:52.75 to finish 22nd overall.

Balboa and Sorg's efforts wrapped up the 2026 outdoor season on the national stage, continuing North Central's long-standing presence at the NCAA Championships.
