Men’s Track & Field Produces Solid Marks in Last Chance Qualifiers

JOLIET, Ill. & La Crosse, Wis. (May 8-9, 2026) - The North Central College men's track and field team sent its student-athletes to the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Uncaged Eagle Open and to the University St. Francis Fighting Chance Invite chasing qualifying marks for the NCAA Championships held later this month. 

The 4-by-100m relay team of Matt Lewis, Zach Anderson, Randy Reed, and Alexander Knight raced an exceptional field at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Uncaged Eagle Open on Friday, clocking a 41.19-second effort, a mark that moved them up to seventh in program history. Reed also ran the 200m in La Crosse, clocking in at 21.37 seconds, good for a season best and a fifth-place finish. 

Back at St. Francis, Ben Balboa claimed the sole event win of the weekend for the Cardinals in the discus throw with a 49.97m (163'11") toss. 

The duo of Daniel Kasperan and BJ Sorg notched second and third place finishes in the 5,000m invitational section at St. Francis, respectively. Kasperan finished as the runner-up in 14:36.73 while Sorg was just behind in third at 14:38.36. 

Third place finishes came from Ari Elmayan in the invitational section of the 1,500m and Dakota White in the invitational section of the 800m. Elmayan clocked a 3:59.87 in the 1,500m while White posted a 1:54.71 in the 800m.

Running the open section of the 3,000m steeplechase was Austin Wesley who clocked a 10:00.28 effort to finish fourth overall. 

Jayden Leise rounded out the Cardinals' top-five finishes in the triple jump as his 14.01m (45'11.75") earned him a fifth-place finish. 

North Central is set to head to Rock Island, Ill. next Wednesday and Thursday, May 14-15 for the Augustana College Midwest Twilight Qualifier meet before the NCAA Championships on May 21-23.
