Oct. 5, 2010-- The North Central College women's tennis team encountered little resistance on Tuesday afternoon in the team's final dual match before the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championships, rolling past non-conference foe Judson University 9-0 at the NCC Tennis Courts.
In doubles,
Abigail Conover and
Cory Schillerstrom rolled past the Eagles' No. 1 tandem of Megan Joyce and Rachel Hegel, 8-4, for their team leading 10th doubles match win of the season.
Alicia DeGrado and Margaret Youel breezed past Antigone Lowery and Danielle Sum, 8-1, at No. 2 while
Stephanie Brunetti and
Allison Ignarski prevailed by an 8-5 count at No. 3 doubles.
In singles, Schillerstrom posted the, 6-3, 6-4, victory at the No. 1 position while DeGrado and Conover each rolled to, 6-0, 6-0, wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Youel downed Sum, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4 while Kathryn Hatch defeated Kristen Kress, 6-3, 6-0. Ignarski concluded the afternoon at No. 6 singles with a convincing, 6-1, 6-1, win over Kirstie Shales at No. 6 to give the Cardinals a clean sweep on the day.
With the win, North Central eclipses the 10-win plateau for the fourth straight fall season, concluding the dual match season with a 10-3 overall mark while Judson falls to 4-6. The Cardinals return to the courts on Friday, Oct. 8 for the two-day CCIW Championships held at the Quad City Tennis Club in Moline, Ill.
