Complete All-CCIW Team
May 10, 2010-- The College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin released its softball All-Conference team on Monday with four North Central College players earning recognition.
Kara Reid earned First Team honors while
Lyndsey Payne,
Lauren Schramm and
Laura Whitfield were honored as Second Team selections.
Reid earns a spot on the All-CCIW team for the third time in her career as an at large selection on the First Team. Reid was a First Team All-CCIW selection in 2009 and was a Second Team honoree in 2007. The senior appeared in 40 games on the season and hit .312 with 12 doubles and 17 RBIs. Seven of Reid's 17 RBIs came during conference play where she hit .333 in 42 at-bats with a .976 fielding percentage playing at second base.
Payne earns Second Team honors as a pitcher after compiling a 12-4 record with an earned run average of 2.74. The junior logged 104 2/3 innings in the circle, striking out 36 while issuing just 16 walks. Payne made 17 starts, recording 11 complete games while recording two shutouts on the season. Within conference play, the righthander compiled a 6-1 mark with a 2.33 ERA in 42 innings of work.
Outfielder
Lauren Schramm earns Second Team accolades having hit .356 on the season with five home runs. The junior has driven in 18 runs and collected 11 extra-base hits on the season, having made 31 starts. In CCIW play, Schramm hit .324 while in the field recorded 23 putouts with one assist and no errors.
Whitfield makes her second straight appearance on the All-CCIW Second Team, making the squad as an at large selection. The junior led the team in almost every offensive statistical category, leading the team in batting average (.405), hits (53), doubles (15), home runs (6), RBIs (39), total bases (88), slugging percentage (.672) and on-base percentage (.470). The shortstop drove in a team-high nine runs during conference play along recording seven extra-base hits, sporting a .349 batting average in conference competition.
North Central (31-12) finished second during the conference regular season with a record of 9-5. The Cardinals, ranked 21st nationally, head to Greencastle, Ind. on Thursday where they will take on Trine University (Ind.) in the opening round of the 60-team NCAA Division III National Tournament.
