BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (May 7, 2010)-- The North Central College women's tennis team's spring season came to a close on Friday, falling 6-3 to Carthage College in the opening round of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Automatic Qualifier Tournament at the Evergreen Racquet Club.

The Lady Reds (12-9) showed their strength at the top of the line-up, capturing victories in the top two doubles matches while sweeping the top four matches in singles play.

Abigail Conover and Jessica Ignarski claimed the lone Cardinal victory in doubles, blasting Amanda Bizub and Kaityln Farrell, 8-0 in No. 3 action. The duo close out the year with a team-best 16-5 mark in doubles play.

In singles, Conover netted her eighth straight victory, taking down Bizub, 7-5, 6-2, in No. 5 action, improving her season record to 23-2 and closing out the spring season unbeaten. Ignarski claimed the victory at No. 6, defeating Alex Maniscalo, 6-3, 6-4, concluding the year with a 21-5 record.

North Central (12-6) was competing in the CCIW Automatic Qualifier Tournament by virtue of its third place finish at last Fall's CCIW Championships, the highest ever finish by the Cardinals in school history.
