Women's Tennis Rolls Past Bluejays, 8-1

Sept. 14, 2010-- The North Central College women's tennis squad rolled to its third straight win on Tuesday afternoon, claiming all three doubles matches en route to an 8-1 victory over Elmhurst College in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin dual match at the NCC Tennis Courts.

The Cardinals (5-1, 2-1) got the day started by winning all three doubles matches. Cory Schillerstrom and Abigail Conover emerged with an, 8-2, win at No. 1 doubles taking down Elmhurst's Virginia Dallman and Stephanie Ruff. Alicia DeGrado and Margaret Youel downed Rebecca Davis and Alex Stark, 8-4, in No. 2 action while Jessica Ignarski and Stephanie Brunetti served up Alexis Ross and Emily Tarlini, 8-1, at No. 3.

In singles, North Central captured five of the six matches with the Bluejays (2-3, 0-2) lone victory coming at the No. 1 position. DeGrado emerged victorious at No.2, defeating Ruff, 6-3, 6-1, while Conover earned the, 6-2, 6-0, win in No.3 singles at the expense of Davis. Youel won by retirement over Ross in No. 5 action, holding a 6-0 lead in the match while Brunetti earned a, 6-2, 6-1, triumph at No. 6 singles. With darkness setting in, Ignarski finished off the match with a, 6-3, 6-2, win at No. 4 singles over Stark.

The Cardinals return to the courts tomorrow afternoon, heading into the city to take on Robert Morris University-Chicago in a non-conference dual match beginning at 3:30 p.m.
