BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (Sept. 18, 2010)-- The North Central College women's tennis squad saw its four match win streak evaporate on Saturday as host Illinois Wesleyan University rallied from an early deficit to edge the Cardinals, 5-4, in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin dual match at the Beadles-Morse Courts.
North Central (6-2, 2-2 CCIW) took the early lead, winning two of three doubles matches.
Cory Schillerstrom and
Abigail Conover defeated IWU's Helen Alex and Andrea Kerwin, 8-5, at the No. 1 position while
Alicia DeGrado and
Stephanie Brunetti cruised to the 8-2 win over the Titans' (3-2, 2-2 CCIW) No. 2 doubles tandem.
In singles, Conover pushed her win streak to eight consecutive matches, easily disposing of Liz Exo, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 3 to improve to 9-1 on the season while Kathryn Hatch made her dual match debut with a, 6-3, 6-4, victory over Lauren Drawbridge at No. 6, pushing her season record to 3-1. Schillerstrom won her opening set 6-3 but was unable to pull out the victory at No.1 singles, ultimately falling, 3-6, 6-2, 7-5, to Illinois Wesleyan's Helen Alex.
The Cardinals return to the courts on Saturday, Sept. 25, traveling to Rock Island, Ill. where they will face Central College (Iowa) at 12 p.m. before finishing the day against host Augustana College at 3 p.m.
