Sept. 29, 2010-- Unable to overcome an early deficit, the North Central College women's tennis team fell, 5-4, to Carthage College on Wednesday afternoon in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin dual match at the Smeds Tennis Center.
The host Lady Reds (6-2, 4-2 CCIW) claimed two of three doubles matches to grab the early lead.
Katie Hatch and
Stephanie Brunetti provided the lone doubles victory for the Cardinals (9-3, 3-3 CCIW), winning, 8-3, over Holly Weber and Kaitlyn Farrell at the No. 3 position.
Both squads claimed three victories in singles, with the Cardinals coming out on top in the No. 1, No. 4 and No. 6 matches.
Cory Schillerstrom rallied from a first set loss to take down Hollis McPeek, 5-7, 6-3, 11-9, in No. 1 action while Maragaret Youel posted the, 6-2, 6-2, victory over Kelsey Brown at No. 4. The win was Schillerstrom's fourth straight, improving to 10-5 on the season.
Stephanie Brunetti cruised to victory at No. 6 singles, defeating Weber, 6-0, 6-4.
Abigail Conover saw her 11-match win streak come to a close, falling, 6-1, 6-2, to Kristina Naidicz at No. 3, falling to 13-2 on the year.
North Central returns to the courts on Friday, Oct. 1, traveling to Saint Louis, Mo. for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Regional hosted by Washington University.
