DECATUR, Ill. (Sept. 4, 2010)-- The North Central College women's tennis team opened up its College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin slate in impressive fashion on Saturday afternoon, posting a 9-0 victory over host Millikin University after not conceding a set in singles action at the Fairview Tennis Courts.
In doubles,
Cory Schillerstrom and
Abigail Conover rolled past Millikin's Kelsy Whitney and Megan Crist, 8-2, in No. 1 action while the Cardinals' No. 2 tandem of
Alicia DeGrado and Margaret Youel blanked the Big Blue's Anna Litwin and Sarah Kidwell, 8-0.
Jessica Ignarski and
Stephanie Brunetti won by default at No. 3 doubles.
In singles, Schillerstrom (No. 1), DeGrado (No. 2), Conover (No. 3), Ignarski (No. 4) and Youel (No. 5) all posted, 6-0, 6-0, at their respective positions while Brunetti won by default at the No. 6 singles position.
With the win, North Central improves to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in CCIW action while the Big Blue stumble to 0-3 with all three matches coming against conference competition.
The Cardinals return to the courts on Monday, Sept. 6, hosting CCIW-rival Wheaton College at the team's brand new on-campus tennis courts. Matches are slated to get underway at 1 p.m.
