Sept. 6, 2010-- The North Central College women's tennis team played its first ever tennis match at the new NCC Tennis Courts on Monday, falling 8-1 to nationally-ranked Wheaton College in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin dual match.

Wheaton (3-0, 1-0 CCIW), ranked 24th nationally and seventh within the Central Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, captured two of three doubles contests to open the match. Alicia DeGrado and Margaret Youel remained unbeaten at No. 2 doubles, defeating the Thunder tandem of Lindsey Hallett and Melanie Milling, 8-6, to improve to 3-0 on the season. Their victory proved to be the Cardinals (2-1, 1-1 CCIW) only win of the day as Wheaton swept all six singles matches.

In singles, Abigail Conover saw her 10-match win streak snapped, falling, 6-2, 6-1, to Sarah Ray at the No. 4 position. It was the senior's first loss since October 2009.

North Central continues its homestand on Wednesday, Sept. 8, taking on local rival Benedictine University in a non-conference dual match.
