WINNECONNE, Wis. (Oct. 15, 2011)-- Paced by a pair of top 15 finishers, the North Central College women's cross country team recorded a ninth-place finish at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Brooks Invitational on Saturday at the Lake Breeze Golf Course.
The Cardinals, ranked 34th nationally in the most recent United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Poll, tallied 271 points to finish ninth overall at the 43-team invite that featured 12 ranked NCAA Division III squads.
Krista Cota paced the Cardinals, finishing the 6,000-meter race in 22 minutes, 17 seconds to place seventh overall.
Alicia Zimmerman was close behind in 13th place in 22:25 while
Lauren Hooks (23:21) and
Kala Bingham (23:25) placed 74th and 77th, respectively.
Maggie Lapinski rounded out the scoring five, placing 100th in 23:40.
Washington University in Saint Louis claimed the top individual finisher and the team title, as the third-ranked Bears tallied 61 points while Erica Jackey won the race in 21:38. Fifth-ranked Massachusetts Institute of Technology was second with 123 points followed by seventh-ranked Calvin College (Mich.) with 188 points and 13th-ranked Saint Olaf College (Minn.) with 190 points.
The Cardinals return to action on Friday, hosting the Cardinal Open at the Saint James Forest Preserve in Warrenville, Ill.
