LISLE, Ill. (Oct. 7, 2011)-- Several underclassmen had a chance to shine on Friday afternoon at the Benedictine University Eagle Invitational, helping the North Central College women's cross country to a sixth place finish at the nine-team event.
With the main varsity squad resting up for next weekend's University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Brooks Invitational, several of the younger runners were able to contribute for the Cardinals, led by
Marissa Holaway. Holaway finished the 6,000-meter race at Lisle Community Park in 25th place in a time of 25 minutes, 32 seconds while fellow freshman
Alexa Reinecke was 32nd in 26:09.
Heather Kearley was 38th (26:32) while
Katelyn Zumpf (40th- 26:45) and
Sarah Janosz (58th- 27:49) rounded out the scoring top five.
North Central, ranked 33rd nationally, finished sixth with 150 points in the team tally. Lewis University, an NCAA Division II institution, claimed the team title with 28 points followed by the University of Saint Francis (52 points) and Elmhurst College (89 points).
The Cardinals return to action next Saturday at the Brooks Invitational at the Lake Breeze Golf Course in Winneconne, Wis.
